The University of York has been home to high-performing research since 1963. Despite its relatively young age, it is among 24 research-intense universities known as the Russell Group. York is a collegiate university whose academic activities are spread across nine self governing colleges. Jointly, they deliver more than 250 undergraduate, postgraduate and research degrees in such academic areas as sciences, arts, humanities and social sciences. It is also a laureate of the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for research activities in Health Economics, Archaeology and Computer Science.
The university recognises the importance of extracurricular activities. To help its students develop skills outside their degree, it provides free second language tuition and vast sports and fitness opportunities courtesy of its £9 million Sports Village. In addition, it established the York Award helping find a work placement and volunteering options. The university has strong connections with a plenitude of companies and organisations, which resulted in entering the top 20 of the most targeted universities by employers according to High Fliers Report 2021.
The university is proud to have a diverse international student community of over 20,000 students who represent around 150 countries. To show appreciation for international students choosing the University of York, it offers a variety of scholarships. The Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship awards five undergraduate and five postgraduate students with a £5,000 deduction from the tuition fee. Country specific and global Academic Excellence Scholarships are also available to help reduce tuition fees for the first year by £10,000.

Overview
The historic city of York founded in 71 AD is home to the University of York. The city is known as the headquarters of one of two British archbishops. The majestic York Minster Cathedral is a focal point of York. Stunning architecture, rich historical heritage, a wealth of entertainment and the lowest crime rates in the country make the city a great choice to study, visit and live in.
The university’s campus is located less than a 20 minute stroll from the centre of York. International students are able to get accommodation for the whole duration of their study if they meet the deadlines. Halls of residence are conveniently placed on campus or in close proximity to it. The university mixes students of different courses so that everyone can get to know each other.
The International Pathway College, which is part of the university, delivers foundation programs and pre-sessional English courses. Students from overseas can also benefit from one-on-one tuition, summer schools and an international student support centre.
