The University of Strathclyde had been known since 1796 by the name of Andersonian Institute. Glasgow’s second oldest higher education provider received the royal charter in 1964, which made it a full blown university. Strathclyde is set across four faculties delivering more than 400 courses and programmes. It is particularly known for its engineering related subjects under the Faculty of Engineering. Many of its academic disciplines are in the top ten rankings by The Complete University Guide 2022 including the number one rated Accounting and Finance. Along with 55 other universities worldwide, its Business School carries the ‘triple accredited’ title meaning it is accredited by all three major bodies - AMBA, AACSB and EQUIS.
The University of Strathclyde has been the winner of a few prestigious awards in the field of education. It was the University of the Year in 2012 and Entrepreneurial University of the Year in 2013, which marked its links with various businesses across a variety of industries.
Strathclyde is home to 23,000 students from more than 100 countries. They are attracted by excellence in teaching, research quality, great employability, state-of-the-art facilities, innovation-driven practices, inclusiveness and internationalisation. All eight categories earned five stars in the QS Stars University Ratings in 2017-2020. The University of Strathclyde sits in the very heart of Glasgow, Scotland’s largest city. Thanks to the blend of cultural heritage and modern appeal, in 2019 Glasgow was placed in the top ten of the world’s best cities according to TimeOut.
The university has plans to invest £1 billion in its facilities by 2025. Today, students have access to a world class around the clock library, WiFi café, the Centre for Sports and Recreation among other facilities. All university student accommodation is in single student rooms. Housing is guaranteed to all international freshers. Students in further years of study can make use of private rented property approved by the university.
International students are able to benefit from English language tuition available at no charge for four hours per week. There are also pre-sessional and in-sessional English programmes.
