The University of Portsmouth is located in the heart of a lively cosmopolitan city Portsmouth, 120km southwest of London. Thanks to the focus on career and life opportunities for its students, the university is able to incorporate some of the best teaching practices in the industry. Gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework is proof of Portsmouth’s commitment to world class education.

Not only that, the university helps find the best career options for their students before they graduate. An expert Careers and Employability Service provides access to information, skills and advice needed for successful employment. It also assists with finding an internship, work placement, volunteering and other options to gain work experience. Most faculties offer a one year paid internship. As the result, Portsmouth is placed high in student satisfaction (88% of satisfied) and employability (97.5% graduates find work within 6 months after graduation) rankings.

The university benefits from a truly multinational student community. 4,000 students of its 24,000 student population represent foreign countries. To help bring the cost of education down for international students, it provides a number of bursaries and scholarships. The Vice Chancellor’s Global Development Scholarship reduces the first-year tuition fee by £1,600. A £5,000 Chancellor’s Global Academic Merit Scholarship is available to students from specific African, Asian and Caribbean countries. Besides that, the School of the Environment, Geography and Geosciences as well as the Faculty of Business and Law provide scholarships for their students.

The UK’s only island city, Portsmouth is a vibrant naval and commercial port with 240,000 people of population. About 10% of its inhabitants are students of the University of Portsmouth. The seaside location, some of the best weather in the UK and maritime heritage make the city attractive to students and tourists alike. The university campus is located in the very centre of the city, so everything needed for great experiences is always close at hand including access to entertainment, kilometres of beautiful beaches and exciting nightlife.

Accommodation on campus is available to all first year international students. Halls of residence located around the city provide around 5,000 en-suite, catered, and self-catered rooms.

The university runs pre-sessional English language programmes and English for Academic Purposes service free of charge for the first year.
