The origins of the University of Liverpool go back to 1881 when it was established as a college. At present, it is one of the most prestigious education institutions in the world, the founding member of the Russell Group of research-led establishments and one of eight research universities in the N8 Group. It is home to 22,000 students including 7,000 from overseas. The university also has more than 10,000 online students. In total, its student body represents 130 nationalities.
The university features three faculties (Science and Engineering, Health and Life Sciences, and Humanities and Social Sciences) offering more than 450 courses and covering 54 subject areas. Its medical school is one of the oldest and the largest in the country and arts and sciences are among the university’s strongest subjects.
The University of Liverpool collaborates with many institutions and research organizations across the world. In particular, it is a founder of the Suzhou University in Shanghai and a partner of Xi'an Jiaotong University.

It helps 94% of the university’s graduates find work within the first 6 months after graduation. The university provides a number of automatically applied scholarships including £2,000-£2,500 worth Vice Chancellor’s International Attainment Scholarship, First Class Scholarship worth £1,000 as well as scholarships for students of specific colleges or programmes.

The university is centred around a single campus just a short walking distance from the centre of Liverpool. The world renowned city welcomes more than 54 million visitors yearly. Rough Guide named it the fourth friendliest city in the world. It offers a variety of pastimes including museums, theatres, galleries and football events. It is also the second, after London, for the number of buildings of national and architectural interest.
The university has recently invested £800m in modernizing its teaching and research facilities so students can benefit from access to world class equipment and technology. The halls of residence have also been renovated. The university guarantees accommodation to international undergraduates if they make the University of Liverpool their firm choice.
An International Support team provides support to international students on such matters as work permits and funding. They can also use the services of The Student Administration Centre. Pre-sessional English languages programmes of up to 40 weeks and in-sessional English support are available as well.
