Previously known as the Northampton Institute, The City became a university in 1966. Overall, its roots stretch back to 1894. The university is widely known for its aeronautical laboratory, which opened more than 100 years ago and was the first of its kind in the UK. Today, City, University of London boasts the largest Master’s air transport industry course in the world. It is also the only London’s university that focuses on academic excellence and business fields. The university is comprised of five schools featuring forty academic departments and centres.
The City has strong ties with businesses and industries that open great opportunities for career development. It also has links with the City of London - the Lord Mayor of London is the university’s rector.
Due to its beneficial location, high student satisfaction rates (it is placed the 3rd among London’s universities according to Complete University Guide), and one of the best graduate starting salaries, City, University of London attracts students from all over the world. The university’s main campus is located in the London Borough of Islington, which is within easy reach of a few Underground stations, and a stone’s throw from the Square Mile, London’s financial district.
