Retail discussion takes stock of global impacts

As the Christmas countdown, Black Friday sales and supply chains are high in the global consciousness, future managers are benefitting from the latest expert insights on retail and its performance.

Kate McCarthy-Booth, Founder and Chair of McCarthy Recruitment and national commentator on the industry, recently visited the University of Chester’s Business School to discuss results in retail, with students, and what can be learned from current world events.

Kate, who built the multi award-winning company from the ground-up, can often be seen sharing her expertise on national news, offering insider views on current issues around retail and recruitment.

Established in 2005, McCarthy Recruitment is a team of specialists in leadership and professional recruitment services. Originally specialising in retail, they now work across all sectors, and were recently presented with the highest accolade of Academy Award at the National Online Recruitment Awards.

In her discussion with final year students at the University, Kate explored how Key Performance Indicators in retail, including product availability and labour can be impacted by global conditions, such as those currently being felt in the supply chain.

Lisa Conway, Senior Lecturer in Business and Senior University Teaching Fellow, said:

Our students learned so much thanks to Kate’s insightful and topical talk. As the importance of retail performance is brought to the fore, she gave students a lot to think about.

We’re extremely grateful to Kate and everyone at McCarthy Recruitment for all of their time and help in supporting the next generation of managers prepare for the future and succeed in their aspirations.

Kate said:

It was a pleasure to meet the retail leaders of the future and to be able to explore the current supply chain issues affecting retail at the moment with a very enthusiastic student group.

Discussing the key metrics that retail focuses on in order to deliver a fantastic store experience and business outcomes is an essential part of retail success so it was a wonderful opportunity to share my knowledge and experience.
